Internal testing of ClearSeal™ PRW

Seal Engineering has tested two similar hydraulic cylinders connected in parallel to each other. Both the cylinders were fitted with conventional seals, however one of the cylinders was fitted with Clear Seal™ PRW along with the piston and rod seals.

Equal amount of contamination was added to both the cylinders before start of the test. All working parameters were maintained the same on both cylinders. Tests was terminated when the cylinder without the ClearSeal™ PRW started to leak. The seals and the hardware remained protected on cylinder fitted with ClearSeal™ PRW.

Internal validations

1: Hard chrome rod

  • Test cylinder: bore Ø 80 mm steel SIS 2172, rod Ø 50 mm steel SIS 2142 hard chrome plated
  • Test media: Mineral based hydraulic oil VDZ 32 Speed: 0,19 m/s
  • Test pressures: 20, 50 and 130 bars
  • Test temperature: 70º C (max)
  • Contamination: 4,3 grams steel chips and 4,6 grams silicon carbide cutting disc chips
  • Total travel: 84,7 km

Results: Cylinder without ClearSeal™ PRW – continuous leakage, broken seals, roughly scratched bore and rod. Cylinder with ClearSeal™ PRW - no leakage, hardly few scratches on the bore and rod

2: SS 316 rod

  • Test cylinder: bore Ø 80 mm steel SIS 2172, rod Ø 50 mm steel SS 316L
  • Test media: Mineral based hydraulic oil VDZ 32. Speed: 0,19 m/s
  • Test pressures: 20, 50 and 130 bars
  • Test temperature: 70º C (max)
  • Contamination: 4 grams silicon carbide cutting disc chips equally distributed to both the cylinders
  • Total travel: 15,6 km

Results: Cylinder without ClearSeal™ PRW – continuous leakage, broken seals, roughly scratched bore and rod. Cylinder with ClearSeal™ PRW - no leakage, hardly few scratches on the bore and rod.
